Who am I? I am a writer. I am a writer because I write.
In January of this year, I bought the book Write for Life: Creative Tools for Every Writer. It was one of those impulse purchases at Barnes & Noble, the spine, title, and cover having caught my attention. In it, Julia Cameron writes,
"It is the act of writing that makes us writers."
I feel that. And as I write, I discover and develop my voice.
I began following her Artist's Way program by practicing daily morning pages. For 2024, I have written:
Jan - March: 44 days
Apr - June: 29 days
July - Sept: 37 days
Oct - Nov 1st half: 23 days
=133 morning pages
133/323 (how many days we've had so far) = 41% I feel like this is on the low side of my estimation.
If we add my 22 blog posts, the mini-sermon I wrote and gave at the beginning of January, the article I wrote for Gather in the summer, the instagram post about my tattoo, and the Spooky Story I wrote for the UC Blue Ash Literary Review Contest, the total writing piece tally increases to 159.
159/323 = 49%. I do feel like I have averaged writing about every other day for 2024. WOW! This is a huge accomplishment.
More and more, I am recognized by others as a writer. The staff at UC Blue Ash. My friends. POP. My parents. They all say I have a natural talent, a gift, for writing. This is how I can serve my community.
Now to add writing for my book on a more consistent basis. More updates to follow!
